Chiefs 5-2 halfway through 2-2A

The Chieftains notched victories over Floydada and Abernathy last week to complete the first half of district play at 5-2. This week they travel to Idalou Tuesday then host Tulia in Friona gym Friday night. That game will be shown on WT Services channel 76 Saturday morning with the Squaws game at 10 a.m. followed by the boys.
At Floydada January 17, the Chiefs won a comeback victory 57-53 over the Floydada Whirlwinds. Friona led 24-19 at the half, fell behind 37-33 at the end of the 3rd, then stormed back with 24 points in the 4th. The Chiefs were outscored in the second half 34-33 but the halftime lead held up for a narrow win.

In Friday night’s skirmish with Abernathy the Chiefs led the entire game but it remained close to the end. Friona 49, Abernathy 44. Scoring: Monroe 12, DeWit 9, Wyly 7, Avalos 6, C. Stowers 6, Hicks 6, Ortiz 3. Monroe was credited with 6 blocks in the game.
