Squaws, Chiefs on
coutdown to playoffs
The Friona Squaws and Chieftains host the Childress Bobcats Friday February 5 in an important contest that has playoff implications. Both the girls and boys beat Dimmitt Tuesday at Friona gym to remain in the playoff race.
The Squaws are tied with Tulia at 4-4 with two district games left. Floydada is 7-1 and Dimmitt is 5-3. The Squaws face Childress (2-6) Friday and Muleshoe (2-6) Tuesday to end district play.
The Chieftains are at 3-3 in district trailing Muleshoe (5-1), Floydada (5-1) and Childress (4-2). Still to play are Childress, Muleshoe, Floydada, and Tulia. Remaining games are played at Friona gym except for Muleshoe Tuesday there.
Squaw Taryn Jamerson and Chieftain Zack Fair were on the injury list for Tuesday’s games with Dimmitt. Their return is uncertain.
The Squaws beat Dimmitt twice in the last two weeks, 35-33 there and 44-38 Tuesday here. In between they lost to Tulia and Floydada. The Floydada games, varsity only, were played last Saturday at Floydada, delayed due to weather.

Chiefs 83 Tulia 40 All nine Chieftains scored in this demolition derby with the Hornets. The Chiefs were 14 of 24 from the free throw line and scored five 3s to rout Tulia. Friday night, February 5, will be the last home game for the Squaws this season and will be senior parents night. The parents and seniors will be honored before the Squaws game. Festivities should begin about 6 p.m. The kids are asking everyone to wear red and come out to support the teams and parents. Paint the Gym Red! Good luck Squaws and Chiefs. Beat Childress!
