Chiefs bow out with

55-43 loss to Idalou

The Friona Chieftains had their hands full trying to tame the Idalou Wildcats in the Friday February 26 area round playoff at Littlefield.

The Chiefs took a 13-9 first quarter lead in spite of a swarming Idalou defense. The Wildcats held Friona to 6 points in the 2nd quarter and took a 25-19 lead at the half. Both teams scored 13 points in the 3rd quarter but Idalou pulled away in the 4th 17-11 and defeated the Chiefs by a final of 55-43 to end a great Chieftain basketball season.

Scoring were: Joey Dickson 13, Nick Ortiz 8, Matthew Stanberry 7, Brenner Barnett 4, Dominique Kellum 4, Zack Fair 3, Caleb Monroe 2. The Chiefs were 9 of 18 from the foul line. Idalou was 16 of 28.

Chiefs earn all-district

Kellum is Newcomer

Three Chieftain basketball players were voted to the 2-2A all-district team. They are Matthew Stanberry, Joey Dickson, and Stetson Reed, all FHS seniors.

Junior Dominique Kellum was selected as Newcomer of the Year. He shared that honor with Jordan Bledsoe of Floydada.

Chieftains Caleb Monroe and David Schwab earned all-district honorable mention.

The district most valuable player is Tyson Turnbow of Muleshoe. Offensive player of the year is Donte Flemon of Childress and defensive player of the year is Jordan Cornelius of Floydada.

Squaws named all-district

Junior Regan Anthony and senior Sasha Estrada were named to the 2-2A All-District girls basketball team. Anthony was also named Defensive Player of the Year. Receiving Honorable Mention All-District were Anna Murphree and Taryn Jamerson.
