Town Talk

YouTube comment — Jose Madrigal posted this comment concerning the 1995 Friona tornado YouTube video the Friona Star has posted on the internet. He wrote, "I remember the days on the weekends my father would take me to the store there in Black, Texas coming from Hereford and going towards Friona. It had two milo bins there and the railroad passing by with highway 60 on Saturdays. Happy memories of the little store with Frostie root beer and pink peanut brittle patties, and all the other classic candies there and ice cream bars. When dad would let me drive the farm tractors, John Deere and Case International tractors. Also, the corn and wheat and to see baby Hereford calves on the wheat pasture. Great memories and, oohhh yes, sneaky Texas tornadoes as you can see."

Graham retires at Graham — Friona native Ky Graham announced his retirement from teaching and coaching following seven years at Graham High School. Coach Graham will end a 20-year coaching career that included stints at Friona and Breckenridge. Ky grew up in Friona, is a 1979 FHS graduate, and also earned a degree in Ag Economics from Lubbock Christian University. Farming was his passion; however, coaching was something that always intrigued him. Ky discovered his love for basketball when he was in seventh grade and Friona went to the 1974 state basketball tournament. The Chieftains lost in the 2A championship game 76-66 to Bowie, but the experience made a lasting impression. Best wishes to Coach Ky Graham and his family!
