Retha Knowles

Retha Knowles, 91 of Friona passed away August 20, 2022 in Amarillo. Viewing was held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM with family visitation time from 6:00PM to 7:30PM Monday August 22, 2022 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY with Celebration of Life Services 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Victory Church of Friona with Pastors Robert Kerby and D. Jay Lewis officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Retha was born April 29, 1931 in Bethel, Oklahoma to Jessie Arlie and Maybelle Markham Benningfield. She later married Alvin Claudie Price March 4, 1947, and he passed away October 2, 1967. She married Jack Knowles December 9, 1971, and he passed away October 31, 1991.

She and Jack owned and operated Knowles Auction Service where they also sold furniture and cars. Later in life she was a care giver to many area residents. Retha loved her God and was a worshiper and her social life was her church. She also loved caring for and spending time with her family, and enjoyed the Friona Sr. Citizens lunches and games, as well as the activities at Prairie Acres.

Retha is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands Alvin Price and Jack Knowles, 1 daughter-Betty Thompson and her husband Darell, another son-in-law-Lee Maxwell, 1 grandson Jimmy Leon Williams, 3 great-grandchildren- Joshua Kirven, Jameson Aden Adams, and Schimmiel Kirven, 2 sisters-Margaret Jones, and Jessie Benningfield, and 1 brother-Thomas Benningfield.

Those to mourn her passing include 2 daughters-Shirley Osborn and husband Ted of Friona, and Wanda Jean Maxwell of Clovis, 2 sisters-Janice Marie McMillen and husband Joe of Maricopa, California, and Mary Elizabeth Benningfield of Hanford, California, 7 grandchildren- Tonda Clark, Rebecca Witt, Vicki Kirven, Kathy James, Brian Osborn, Gia Oehm, and Dustin Thompson, 20 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild.

Suzan Hughes

Suzan Hughes, 62 of Bovina passed away August 21, 2022 in Hereford. At Suzan's request, there will be no public viewing. Celebration of Life Services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Friona with Pastor Wayne Boydstun, officiating. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Suzan was born September 29, 1959 in Clovis, New Mexico to Joel Raymond and Jane Ann Kelso Sealey. She later married Kevin Hughes February 8, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada and produced 36 wonderful years together.

Suzan took care of the family home as well as working for Parmer County as a maintainer operator, Bovina ISD as a bus driver and substitute teacher. Her largest asset was her personality. She loved people and talking with them. She truly never met a stranger. She loved to cook, get her nails done, vacation, and was known as a professional shopper. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Friona.

Preceding her in death was her parents and daughter Padyn Hughes.

Those to mourn her passing include her husband Kevin Hughes of Bovina, 1 daughter-Haylee Jo Hughes of Littlefield, 2 sisters- Darla Sealey of Bovina, and Layle Sanchez and husband Antonio of Portales, sister-in-law- Lokeene Dallas of Denver, Colorado, 1 brother-Jay Sealey and wife Pam of Clovis, 4 nieces- McKall Ward of Lubbock, Madeline Sealey-Waller of Justin, Texas, Aubrey Sanchez of Portales, and Jolene Rivera of Lakewood, Colorado, 4 nephews McKenna Sealey of Clovis, Haston Sanchez, and Gavin Sanchez of Portales, and Justin Dallas of Las Lunas, New Mexico.
