Town Talk

Happy Birthday - Friona turns 116 years old this year. It was established as a small community in 1898 by XIT Ranch, originally called Frio, which is "cold" in Spanish. The community served as a shipping point for the Pecos and Northern Texas Railroads. In 1906, The George G. Wright Land CO. chose the community for a colonization project, promising settlers of fertile soil, and a healthful climate. The community then became known as Friona after the opening of a post office in March 16, 1907.

Just 4 laughs - (1) What kind of exercise do lazy people do? Diddly-squats. (2) Hear about the new restaurant called Karma? There's no menu - you get what you deserve. (3) How come scientists don't trust atoms? Because they make up everything. (4) Why did the chicken go to the séance? To get to the other side. Source: https://www.rd.com/list/short-jokes/

The $8.5 billion average annual investment is expected to yield an estimated $15.5 billion per year in economic benefits. It would be nice to get the road from Friona to Farwell finished sometime in near future.

Biggest Small Town in Texas!

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Sorry to interrupt your inflight movie, but on the left hand side of the aircraft is a spectacular view of the center of the known universe from 35,000 feet...Friona, Texas. Home of the Fighting Chieftains and your illustrious captain." Thanks, Toby!
