Donna Lavonne Smith Malcom

Donna Malcom, 87, passed peacefully in the presence of her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 2, 2023 in Amarillo, Texas. There will be a visitation and viewing on Monday, October 9th from 6:00 -7:30 at Ponder Baptist Church. Burial and graveside services will be October 20th at 10:00 AM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. There will be a memorial service for Billy and Donna Malcom at a later date in Tulia, Texas.

Donna was born on January 3, 1936 to Frank and Mona (Morton) Smith in Bovina, Texas. She grew up in Bovina where she was the drum major in the band, played basketball, and took piano lessons for many years.

Donna was an avid sports fan. She met her husband, Billy Malcom while playing softball on a local softball team. They were married on January 25, 1956 and eventually settled in Tulia, Texas, where they raised five children. They enjoyed following their children and grandchildren by attending countless football, basketball, track, golf, and baseball games, as well as band concerts. They attended the Calvary Baptist and First Baptist Churches in Tulia.

Donna attended West Texas A&M University as a returning student. In her last semester there, she gave birth to her fifth child while still managing to make a 4.0 and the Dean's List. She then touched many lives as a 4th grade teacher at Tulia's Swinburn Elementary, teaching for 22 years.

After retiring, Donna enjoyed playing golf every afternoon with a group of special ladies at Tule Lake Golf Course. She was an excellent golfer and enjoyed playing in area tournaments with other Tulia women whom she built strong friendships with through the years.

After living in Tulia for over 40 years, she and her husband, Billy, moved to Ponder, Texas. in 2004, where they continued to follow their grandchildren in various sporting events and attended Ponder Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mona Smith, husband Billy Malcom, her brother and sister-in-law Charles Don and Clarice Smith, and brother Paul Smith.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Neil and Lauretta Smith of San Antonio, and her children Monty Malcom and wife Betty of Lubbock, Tracie Holmes of Fort Worth, Neila Scheller and husband Kerry of Amarillo, Rance Malcom and wife Marci of Denton, D'Lynn McCoppin and husband Chris of Corinth. Also surviving are grandchildren; Jackie Bebout, Tyrell (AnaMarisa) Bebout, Austen (Mary Joe) Holmes, Tanner (Mary) Holmes, Branton Holmes, Kale (Niki) Malcom, Konner (Hannah) Malcom, Keaton (Meredith) Malcom, Brady Killham, as well as a step granddaughter Shelia (Brent) Molloy, and 16 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
