Friona Elementary Pumpkin Contest

Friona Elementary hosted a Pumpkin Contest October 23-27, 2023. The contest was for 2nd Grade through 5th Grade students and staff members. We had 60 entries in all. I would like to thank all the students who participated in the contest. Also, I would like to thank Sandra Berend, Marie Samarron, John Torres, and the Lineage for serving as our judges. These are the photos of our Pumpkin Contest Winners for this year.

Town Talk

Veterans Day Program - The FISD Veterans Day program is set for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10th in the main gym at the FHS Activities Center.

Pass the Word - The Annual Community Thanksgiving Service is at Victory Church on Sunday, November 19, at 6:00 p.m. The service is hosted by the Friona Christian Ministries, and is always an uplifting time of worshipping the Lord Jesus as a community of believers. An offering will be taken which will be used to help people throughout the year in our community with basic needs. There will also be a snack food fellowship following the service at the church. You are invited to bring your favorite snacks to share in the fellowship time afterwards.

The Band Played On - The band rocked it Friday night as they brought their award winning program back to Chieftain Field, and did so in style. Also, band boosters would like to thank everyone who purchased pulled-pork sandwiches at their fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. Special thanks to Friona Vocational Agriculture Association members for cooking.

Prairie/Legacy News - Alex Shipp is the Prairie Acres Resident of the Month for November. The Employee of the Month is Karina Santiago, who works in the nursing department and joined the staff in May of 2023.

Thanks to the kids (and parents) who joined us on Halloween for Trunk or Treat. Special thanks to the Parmer County Sheriff's Office for organizing the event.

A Thanksgiving meal is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14th at 6:30 p.m. and Bingo Night is November 16th at 6:00 p.m.

Special Session #4 - On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott today Special Session #4 and issued a proclamation identifying agenda items for that special session which begins at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7. Agenda items will pertain to Education and Border Security.

United Fund applications due Wednesday - The United Fund of Friona organization is currently taking applications for possible funding. The form can be found on page 11. Applications are due by 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the FISD boardroom. Applicants must have a representative show up in person with their application.

Coming to a Theatre Near You - The cast and crew of FHS Theatre have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on this year's musical, Once on This Island. Performance dates and times are listed at left.

Family, friends, co-workers, and former "patients" dropped by the Friona Senior Citizens Center last Saturday to wish Tommie Mercer a Happy 90th Birthday. Attendees enjoyed visiting, singing "Happy Birthday", cake and punch, and a buffet of snack foods.
