In a ceremony on Wednesday in the FHS gym, both Aiden Pitsch and Edward Trevino signed letters of intention with John Deere/Western Equipment to enter the Agricultural Technician Program. Families, friends, instructors, and fellow students were present to cheer on the two signees. Refreshments were served.

87th Annual county stock show continues

The 87th Annual Parmer County Junior Livestock Show, which began on Tuesday, will conclude on Thursday, January 18th with the barrow show. The Premium Sale will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. in the Community Center on Saturday, January 20, following the Buyers' Luncheon. The Friona Star will publish a special stock show edition on February 1st which will include lots of photos and final results from the livestock show.

Local Stock Show is Friday

Friona FFA will conduct the Local Stock Show starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19th in the Community Center. The concession stand will be open for business on Friday.

Town Talk

Town Hall - Congressman Jodey Arrington will conduct a county-wide Town Hall meeting on Thursday, January 25th from 1-2 p.m. at the XIT Recreation Center in Bovina.

The Heat is On - the 1st Annual Parmer County Chili Cook-Off is scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the XIT Recreation Center in Bovina, Texas. The inaugural event will run from 11:30 a.m. till 1:30 p.m. and will benefit the Bovina Senior Citizens Association. There will be Hot Prizes for the best chili so "Bring the Heat" and plenty of water. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Children 12 and under get in free with paying adult. Save the Date - St. Ann's Catholic Church of Bovina is having their annual German Sausage Dinner on Sunday, January 28th from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. (Texas time) at the St. Ann's Parish Hall on 3rd Street in Bovina, Texas. They will be serving homemade German sausage, creamed potatoes & gravy, green beans, homemade sauerkraut, homemade bread, homemade desserts, and tea or coffee. Donations will be $15 for adults and $6 for children under six years of age. Take-out plates will be available at no additional charge. Sausage will be available to purchase the day of the dinner or by contacting any St. Ann's member prior to the dinner. They make regular, jalapeño, and green chili sausage.

Lions Club Fundraiser - Members of the Friona Noon Lions Club are currently selling tickets for their 2024 fundraiser. Prizes include a Weatherby 20 gauge shotgun, a Ruger rimfire pistol, and ribeye steaks from Cargill of Friona. Tickets are $10 each and are available from any Lions Club member or a Houlette Petroleum. The drawing will be held at the Lions Club meeting on Tuesday, February 20th at the Clubhouse.
