Juana “Juanita” Contreras 78, of Bovina passed away July 24, 2026 in Bovina. Viewing will be held Monday August 3, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM with Rosary Services at 6:00 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina with Mass of Christian Burial Services set for 10:00 AM Tuesday August 4, 2026 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina with Father Nick Gerber as Celebrant. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery entrusted to HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Juanita was born July 25, 1947 in Leon Guanajuato, Mexico to Adela Soria. She later married Medrano Contreras in 1963 and he passed away September 9, 2021. She loved to knit, speak her mind, watch The Price Is Right, Family Feud and Hallmark movies. She loved spending time with her family, friends and her dog Angel. She was an active member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Bovina where she helped organize the annual Jamaica and was a member of the Guadalupanas for many years. She was a die-hard Texas Rangers fan even though they would make her mad when they would lose. She was also Bovina Chamber Woman of the Year for 2015.
She is preceded in death by her mom-Adela and husband-Lino, 1 son- Juan C. Contreras, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Those to mourn her passing include 2 daughters-Maria P. Hernandez and husband Sergio and Ana Castaneda and husband Jesus, all of Bovina, 2 sons-Martin Contreras and wife Gloria of Clovis, and JC Contreras and wife Raquel of Amarillo, her 4-legged son-Angel, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
