Gladys Marie Karr Mote, 81 of Friona, formerly of Grady, N.M. passed away September 2, 2026 in Friona. Celebration of Life Services were scheduled for 10:00 AM Mt. Time Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at the Grady Methodist Church in Grady, N.M. with Pastor Suzanne Brockmeier, officiating. Burial follows in the Grady Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona, Texas.
She was born April 22, 1945 in Bauxite, Arkansas to MB and Ora Lee Petty Karr and lived a life centered around loving family and caring for others. Marie met the love of her life, Bill Mote while working as a waitress in Clovis. It didn’t take long for her to go from city waitress to country farm wife. Just 3 months after meeting, they were married on Christmas Day 1963. Their love stood the test of time, sharing 58 years of marriage before Bill passed away on October 16, 2021. Marie loved Bill deeply and treasured their life together on the family farm.
After raising her two children Monty and Leanne, she spent over 20 years working in the cafeteria at Grady Municipal Schools where her caring heart extended far beyond her own family. She loved the children that she was able to help nourish throughout the years and took great pride in feeding and caring for generations of students. For Marie, it was her way of showing love and taking care of those around her. Her kindness (and rolls) left an impression on countless children who passed through the school cafeteria over the years. Marie will be remembered for many things, but most of all for giving the very best hugs. Her hugs made one feel safe, loved and right at home.
Although saying goodbye leaves and emptiness that can’t be filled, there is comfort knowing that Marie is finally reunited with her beloved husband Bill, and son Monty with two little Dachschund dogs Red and Smokey trailing behind. After so many years apart we can only imagine that beautiful reunion, and one of her all-consuming Marie hugs waiting for each.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents- MB and Ora Lee Karr, husband- Billy Ray Mote, son- Monty Bill Mote, sisters-Cherry Williams, Penny O’Toole and Pat Sherwood.
She is survived by her daughter-Leanne Carter and husband Wayne of Wheatland, brothers-Wayne Karr and wife Caroline of Azle, Texas, Joe Karr of Odessa, Texas, Jim Karr and wife Delores of Belton, Texas, Mike Karr and wife Janet of Lewisville, Texas, grandchildren-Dalton Thomas and wife Ashley of Grady, and Brenna Kight and husband JT of Jacksonville, North Carolina, great-grandchildren-Addison, Kimber, and Tripp Thomas, Frasier and Hollis Kight.
Marie leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and will forever carry with them the memories, love and hugs she so freely gave.

Paul “Lucky” Gonzales Jr. was born into this world on June 1, 1948 and was surrounded by family when he went to be with Jesus September 2nd, 2026.
A Rosary will be said at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 11, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 401W 17th St, Friona, TX. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Cruz P. and Pablo Gonzales Sr. gave him life on June 1st, 1948. He also had two brothers and four sisters. Jimmy Gonzales, Danny Gonzales, Petra “Mama Pat” Toscano, Josie Bautista, Beatrice “Becky” Perkins and Susana “Susie” Hudson were his siblings who kept him busy most of the time. He spent most of his younger life working on a farm in some fashion.
He especially loved working on cars and tires. For years, he owned his own tire shop “Lucky’s Tire” in Friona, Texas. You couldn’t miss that yellow Ford on Highway 60 in Friona. There wasn’t a tire size he couldn’t fix. Friona was also the place where he would meet the love of his life, Susan A. Gonzales. They were married on January 12, 1969. For years his life was filled with the love of his many nieces and nephews, but they longed for a child of their own. On January 2, 1985, their daughter Paula Jean Gonzales was born. For Lucky, he never met a stranger or anyone he was unwilling to help, right down to helping kids fly kites at school. He always had a bright hello or a hug if you needed one. If you wanted to learn about cars or tires, Lucky was the person to go to. He also was willing to help anyone he could regardless of how far or difficult it was.
Paul is preceded in death by his brother Danny Gonzales, his father Pablo Gonzales Sr., his sister Pat Toscano, his mother Cruz P. Gonzales, and his brother Jimmy Gonzales.
He is survived by his wife Susan A. Gonzales of Friona, his daughter Paula Jean Ostrander and husband Stephen of Amarillo as well as his granddaughters Natalia Gonzales of Sugarland, TX and Taya Ostrander of Amarillo. He also is survived by his sisters Susie Hudson and husband Jack Hudson; Becky Perkins; Josie Bautista and husband Lupe Bautista. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many cousins. He leaves behind many friends and friends who became family who will all miss him dearly. Lucky and Susan were also blessed to be the godparents of many children they were asked to baptize and share their Catholic faith with.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the doctors and nurses of Parmer County Community Health Center and Prairie Acres Nursing home for taking care of him in his days. A special thanks to Bluebonnet Home Health & Hospice as well for making sure he was comfortable right up until the end.
