Elva A. Hernandez

Elva A. Hernandez, 82, of Bovina passed away Sunday, December 2, 2102, in Muleshoe. Graveside services were held Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Bovina Cemetery with Rev. Anthony Swamy Askula officiating. Arrangements were by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Elva was born February 25, 1930, in Harlingen, Texas to Mijan and Julia Hernandez. She grew up and attended schools in Santa Rosa, Texas. She moved to Bovina in 1953. She worked for the Bovina Independent School District in their school cafeteria.

She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play all sports, loved to work in her yard and watching things grow in her garden. She was a devoted member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina.

Elva was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by: two sons, Joe Olvera and wife Celeste of Bovina and Robert Olvera of Bovina; two brothers, Ernest Hernandez and Daniel Hernandez, both of Bovina; four sisters, Elodia Flores, Santos Salazar, and Beatrice DeLa Rosa all of Bovina and Paula Salazar of Friona; three grandchildren, Joseph Olvera, Mike Olvera, and Jason Olvera; six great-grandchildren, Natalie Olvera, Edgar Olvera, Jacob Olvera, Miranda Olvera, Matthew Olvera, and Sophia Olvera.

Martha Ann Koelzer

Martha Ann Koelzer, 73, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Friona, died in Amarillo Monday December 3, 2012. Prayer vigil was recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth with Rev. Ken Keller, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating.

Burial followed in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Nazareth under the direction of Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home in Friona.

Martha Ann Hanson was born August 10, 1939 in Tulia, Texas to John Burnes Hanson and Marie Catherine Bellinghausen Hanson. She grew up in Nazareth, Texas and attended school and graduated there. She also lived in Friona, Bovina, and Hereford. Ms. Koelzer was owner of Gibb’s Cleaners in Friona and was also an Avon representative.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Kevin Koelzer, and two brothers, James Hanson and Jerome Hanson.

Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Jones of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Clara Carpenter of Amarillo, and Anna Zelante of Melbourne, Australia; one son, Bernard Koelzer of Abilene, Texas; two sisters, Elizabeth Green and Agnes Campbell, both of Amarillo; one brother, Andrew Hanson of Cashion, Oklahoma; and 11 grandchildren.

Humberto Lerma Prieto

Humberto Lerma Prieto, 27, of Friona, Texas died Monday, December 3, 2012, in Amarillo, Texas. Family visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home in Friona. Burial will be in Panteon Seccional La Paz in Naica, Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico at a later date. Services provided by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Humberto was born March 6, 1985, to Seferino Lerma Trejo and Hilda Elia Prieto Soltero in Naica, Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico. He graduated from Friona High School.

Survivors are: parents Seferino Lerma Trejo and Hilda Prieto Soltero of Friona; one brother, Cesar Lerma Prieto of Friona; grandparents Pablo Lerma and Eulalia Trejo of Mexico and Carlos Prieto and Magdalena Soltero of Mexico; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
