Two new Depot windows were installed and on display during the Cheeseburger Festival. Donations are still needed to complete replacing all of the windows in the historic building. Donations are accepted at Friona Interbank or contact Bill White, president of the Community Heritage Society.

A sign company from Amarillo installed new signage Monday that notes the name change from Friona State Bank to Friona Interbank. They put a sign at the drive-thru entry on Cleveland St. and new glass in the signboard the bank maintains on Hwy 60 near the ATM.

How important is the CRP program? According to the Agriculture Department CRP provides $2 billion annually to landowners and these dollars make their way into the economy creating jobs. Each year, says the USDA, CRP results in carbon sequestration equal to taking almost 10 million cars off the road. Big article on CRP from the Ag Secretary in this issue of the Star. Once a politician always a politician.

Here’s another “watch out” tip: A news report said 12,300 kids went to the ER in 2011 as a result of injuries from falling TVs. Most were smaller TVs. Sixty-four percent were kids under five years-old. On average, one child dies from falling TV injuries every three weeks. Better keep the little ones away from the TV.

Mayor's Minutes

I want to keep “you”, the citizens of Friona updated on some important issues in Friona and share other information on how the city is performing. I will be sharing this once per month in the Friona Star under “Mayor’s Minutes.”

1) Water: We asked our city engineer to perform a study on Friona’s water supply and give us a good estimate on how many years supply we have. After an extensive study we know today that we have a water supply of approximately 40 years. The city council will be making some decisions on Friona water and I will inform you as those decisions are made. (more...)
