Town Talk II

by Ron Carr

Been a slow news week. Not a lot of news in this issue of the Star. It is mid-summer and sometimes news is slow. People go on vacation, visit out-of-town, or stay inside and stay cool. We have published lists and schedules this week. School supply lists, football and volleyball schedules, and a Maize Days schedule are included. Might clip them out and save.

The big hail storm hit Friona June 5, about two months ago. After many insurance adjusters came to town now the roofing is picking up steam. Lot of roofers around town these days. Many vehicles were also totaled by the hail. Those cars and trucks behind the Farm Bureau office are waiting to be hauled off to auction. Rain is nice but hail not so much. At least it creates some jobs.

Parents, sorry but the school supply lists say “No Trapper Keepers” again this year. I believe the reason is they won’t fit in the lockers.

Congratulations to Patty Haile. On Friday (Aug 2) she will become Dr. Patty Haile when she receives her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in Phoenix. The entire family will be there to help celebrate. Patty is one of our favorite persons and we know she has worked hard and long to receive her degree.

Here is a quote from President Obama’s July 24, 2013 speech to a group in Galesburg, Illinois. “I care about one thing and one thing only, and that’s how to use every minute of the 1,276 days remaining in my term to make this country work for working Americans again.” We shall see. I’m of the opinion that if you later asked those people who attend Obama’s speeches what he said they couldn’t tell you.
