Cheeseburger festival just around the corner

Mouth-watering, delicious, yummy, taste bud tantalizing cheeseburgers are coming to Friona on Saturday, July 18. The Friona Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is hosting the 10th Annual Texas Cheeseburger Festival and Cook-off in the Friona City Park.

The day will be filled with good food, music, classic cars and fun for all ages.

The Chamber encourages everyone to round up your cheeseburger cook-off team and join the fun. Prizes for best cheeseburgers are $1,000 for first place and $300 for second place. Awards will also be given for the Cutest Campsite and People’s Choice. Entry forms can be found at www.frionachamber.com and click on Cheeseburger Festival.

The cook-off is limited to 20 teams. All burgers are cooked on-site and will be served to the public at 11:30 a.m. Teams will set up at 7 a.m. and receive instructions, beef, buns, cheese, lettuce, onion, tomatoes and ice. Each team will need to bring enough of their secret ingredients to make 200 burgers, plus their own shade, grill, coolers, tables and chairs. Deadline for team entries is 3 p.m. on Friday, July 10.

Booths will dot the City Park. Booths sizes and fees are 10 X 10 ft. for $30 and 10 X 20 ft. for $60. Vendors are reminded this is a family event and to keep novelties geared toward families. While waiting for a delicious cheeseburger patrons can enjoy the 2015 Minute Men Car and Bike Show. Entry fee is $50 with all the car show proceeds to benefit the Friona Volunteer Fire Department. Categories will include classics (pre-1990), classic modified, late model (post 1990), late model modified, sport and cruiser bikes.

Prizes/trophies will be awarded along with Fireman’s Choice (best overall). First place per class will be awarded free entry in next year’s show. Lineup begins at 9 a.m. and judging will be at 1 p.m. All entries need to report to the Friona Fire Station on Main Street for registration and parking assignments.
