Prairie Acres Administrator Matt Zahodnik just finished his first month as the new administrator. He reports that they are down to the last hallway being renovated.

Heritage Estates A.L. Manager Tonya Yankee reports that everyone is invited to attend community game day every Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

She also reports that everyone is invited to attend the Aging and Wellness meeting every third Friday of the month. This is put together by Bluebonnet Home Health and Heritage Estates. You can enjoy the meeting and stay for lunch. The meal is $3 and you must RSVP the day before the meeting.

Maria Chico has been named the Resident of the Month at Prairie Acres. Employee of the Month is Brandon Pope. He is in the dietary department and has been with Prairie Acres since January 2014.

The May Friona Blood Drive took in a phenomenal 63 units of blood. This set an all-time record.

The June Blood Drive is set for Thursday, June 22 at the Calvary Baptist Church from noon to 7 p.m. They will be celebrating Dairy Month with a dairy themed t-shirt, a pint of milk, a cup of ice cream and a squeeze cow for everyone that presents to donate. Donors will also be signed up for a drawing for a year-supply of milk. The Friona Noon Lions will be grilling up cheeseburgers with the cheese being provided by Dairy Max. Get a Mooove on over to the Friona Blood Drive on June 22.

Remember to head over to the Friona Swimming Pool to take a cool, refreshing dip Monday through Saturday 1-5 p.m. and water aerobics from 6-7 p.m.

Cousin’s Camp at A-1 Service Center will be up and running June 13-15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come by for lemonade and cookies.

The Chamber is gearing up for a very busy July. The month will start with the July 4th celebration Friona-style. The middle of the month will bring cheeseburger aficionados to town for the 12th Annual Cheeseburger Festival on Saturday, July 15. The month ends with the 2nd Annual Kidz Building Camp at the Friona Community Center July 18-22. The Star will run more details next week.

The Action for an Ambulance Fund is gearing up to start fundraising for a new ambulance for Friona. Watch for upcoming opportunities to donate.

Monday, June 12 is a busy day for local government. The Parmer County Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. at the county courthouse. At 6:30, the Friona City Council will meet in the Council Chambers. The Friona ISD Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. at the administration building. All of these meetings are open to the public.

The Friona Public Library reminds all kiddos that their annual Summer Reading Program is underway and programs will be presented. A calendar of activities was in the June 1 edition of the Star but if you missed that just watch the Community Calendar on page 2 every week.
