The Friona Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting Ho! Ho! Home for the Holidays! All you have to do is shop locally and sign up to win $25 in Friona Bucks at local businesses. The drawing will be held on Wednesday, December 19 for winners at each participating business. There will also be a grand prize of $100 in Friona Bucks. Participating businesses are Bi-Wize Pharmacy, Blackburn Hardware, A-1 Service, H&R Block, Hunan Star II, Ivy Cottage Flowers & Gifts, Kendrick Oil/Farm Store, Lowes Supermarket, Malouf’s Fabrics, Milk House Market, and Veterinary Industries.

Friona Buyers’ Club is selling tickets for the chance to win a pistol. Proceeds will be used for the purchase of Friona FFA and 4-H livestock projects at the county livestock show. The winner will have the option to pick 1 out of the 3 pistols. The winners choice will be: Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380, Sig Sauer SP2022 40sw, Glock G27 40sw. The drawing will be held at the Friona Wheat Growers on Friday, December 14, 2018 at noon. The winner must be 18 years of age or older. The ticket donations will be $10.00 for one donation or 3 for $25.

The Empty Stocking Fund provides clothes and a toy to local needy children as determined by school officials. Donations can be taken to Friona InterBank or co-chairpersons Holly Campbell and Jyl Grimsley.

Adopt a Resident! It is a wonderful time of the year when we all have the opportunity to bring joyful Christmas to the local elderly residents at Prairie Acres. If you would like to Adopt a Resident, please contact the Activity Department at (806) 250-3922.

Project Christmas Card is accepting donations for Parmer Medical Center. Project Christmas Card is sponsored by the Parmer County Hospital Auxiliary. Donations can be placed in canisters found in local businesses or at Friona InterBank. Deadline for donations is December 15, 2018.

Friona High School is looking for judges for the Bobsled Classic Speech Tournament. The tournament will be Saturday December 15 at 8 a.m. at Friona High School. Call FISD at 250-3951 if you are interested in judging.

The Friona High School invites you to attend the 2018 Bobsled Classic on December 15, 2018. Preliminary debate rounds will be held at the Elementary School. All semis and finals will be held at the High School. If necessary, debate quarter-finals will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Elementary School as well.

FISD will be having an early release on December 20th and 21st. Christmas break is December 24th through January 4.

Friona ISD students in Kindergarten – 12th grade are eligible for parent or teacher nominations to the Gifted and Talented Program offered by Friona ISD for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents who desire to nominate their child for this program may contact the principal or counselor in their child’s building for the appropriate form. Forms need to be completed and returned to the principal by January 31, 2019. A certified Gifted and Talented teacher will administer the necessary tests for admission to the program.

The Annual Chamber Awards Banquet will be March 5th. The theme for this year’s banquet will be 50’s and 60’s. They will be having a silent auction during the banquet. If you have an auction item that you would like to donate please call the chamber and they will pick up the item. The funds made from the auction helps the chamber sponsor the extra activities through out the year. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Friona High School Senior, Bailey Pope has been chosen to play on the South Team in the 2018 Golden Spread All Star Volleyball Tournament. The tournament will be played this Saturday, December 15th in Canyon at “The Box”. There are 4 teams made up of Seniors from 11 different schools in this area with about 8 girls on each team. East and West play at 11:00, North and South play at 1:00, and then either 3:00 or 5:00.

On December 21, 2018, the Friona Police Department will be hosting their first Annual Christmas Gift Drive for the Elderly at Prairie Acres Nursing Home. They are planning to provide the residents with an unforgettable experience. Gifts will be delivered by Blue Santa. To provide them with this experience and gifts they are requesting the help of local businesses and the community. The goal is to provide each person with a box filled with a pajama set and other clothing items. Please consider donating the following: lightweight blanket, scarves, one size fit all gloves and house shoes. The help would be greatly appreciated and will help to make this event spectacular and memorable! There are currently 39 residents at the Prairie Acres Nursing Home. The following is a list of sizes they are needing for their pajama sets. Male: Medium 2, Large 4, X-Large 2, 2X 2, 3X 2, Total: 12; Female: Medium 5, Large 10, X-Large 8, 2X 2, 3X 1, 4X 1, Total: 27
