This past week, Patsy Bandy brought by a copy of “The Floyd County Hesperian-Beacon” which is the newspaper that covers Floydada, Texas. It had an feature on her son, Todd Bandy, who has been the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Floydada since 2009. Todd is still the AD this year, but is “retiring” from football and will be the Head Girls Track Coach.

Todd is a 1978 graduate of Friona High School and a 1991 graduate of West Texas A&M University. He started his teaching and coaching career in 1991 after farming for the previous 10 years. His first job was at Pleasant Grove in Texarkana, Texas. He was on the coaching staff of 1973 Friona High School graduate Willie Bailey for three years. Next, Todd coached at Muleshoe for two years, Howe for five years, Brady for five years, Nevada Community for one year, and Whitewright for two years. He arrived in Floydada in 2009 and has been there ever since.

Todd is married, has a daughter, a son, and two grandchildren. He is the son of Eugene and Patsy Bandy of Friona.

DVD copies of the 2018 Summer Drama Workshop 2018 are now available at Intheden Graphics at 1215 Elm Avenue. The DVD costs $10 and includes all three performances.

There will be a lot of meetin’ and a lot of greetin’ Monday night at Friona High School. Go to Chieftain Field at 7:00 p.m. and meet the Chieftains and Squaws and then head over to the cafeteria around 8:00 p.m. to meet all the new teachers, staff members, and the new Superintendent. See you there!

Both Friona Chieftain scrimmages have been moved to Fridays. This Friday, August 17th, the Chiefs will host Sundown beginning at 5:00 p.m. and on Friday, August 24th the Chiefs will travel to Bushland and the start time will also be 5:00 p.m. for that scrimmage.

We welcome Cy and Barbara Jenkins to Friona! Cy is the new administrator at the Prairie Acres Nursing and Rehab Center. They are moving to Friona from El Paso.
