Rev. Bobby and Alison Broughton are moving to San Angelo. He has accepted a position with Emmanuel Baptist Church and part of his new ministry will be working with Senior Adults. He has served at Calvary Baptist Church in Friona for the past seven years. Please read his “Thankful for Friona” column in this paper. Best wishes to Bobby and Alison in their new adventure.

The Football Contest will return this year starting on August 30th. Contest information will be announced in the paper next week.

School begins Thursday, August 16th. Please be extra careful when driving around a through school zones. The kids will be excited and will probably not be paying attention to their surroundings.

The Little Miss and Miss Friona Pageants are just around the corner. August 24th is the deadline to enter. Both pageants will be held on September 15th.

The Friona Noon Lions will host a Community Blood Drive on Thursday, August 23rd. It will take place at the Calvary Baptist Fellowship Hall from Noon until 7:00 p.m.

The Friona Volunteer Fire Department is selling tickets for their annual Maize Days Drawing. The prize this year is a 36” Treager Pellet Grill. Clint Hurst and Parmer County Implement have sweetened the deal with additional grilling amenities. Full details next week. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any fire department member. The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 22nd.

“Meet the Chieftains” will be on Monday August 20th at 7 p.m. at Chieftain Field. Football, Volleyball, Cross Country and Cheerleaders will be introduced. The first scrimmage for the Friona Chieftains will at 6:30 p.m. on August 18th as the Chiefs will host Sundown.

Friona Squaws volleyball is underway and the girls have been working hard the past few weeks getting ready for the new season. See their schedule in this paper. One of their most interesting matches was their dominating performance against the ChannelNews10 all-stars. The newscasters will not be giving up their day jobs.
