City Council discusses Cleveland Avenue

The Friona City Council met in regular session on Monday, January 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 619 Main in Friona, Texas. The meeting began with a roll call, an invocation, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

There were no public comments made during the public hearing portion of the council meeting. The first action taken in the regular hearing was the approval of the Minutes of the November 12th and December 10th regular city council meetings.

Next, the Council approved Ordinance No. 2019.01.14 which is the Closing, Abandoning, and Vacating Block 38, Parmer County, Texas: All of Cleveland Avenue between W. 8th Street and West 9th Street. The implementation of the ordinance is contingent upon the passage of a School Bond and the payment of the associated utility reconstruction costs by the Friona Independent School District to the City of Friona.

The Council then heard an operational report from the Friona Police Department, approved the accounts payable for December 2018, approved the financial statement for December 2018, and approved the 1st quarter financial statement (Oct-Dec 2018).

City Manage Lee Davila notified the Council that the city will have 2 bond payments at the end of January. The Council also approved the scheduled disposal of outdated city records.

The Council also discussed the upcoming 2019 City of Friona Election on Saturday, May 4th. The terms of Nancy Davis, Bruce Fleming, and Alan Monroe will expire this year. January 16th is the first day for filing applications for a place on the ballot.
