Bragging time will be here in the Valentine paper in February. Forms are available at the Star office. Valentines are only $10 for pictures with 1-2 people and $20 for pictures with three or more people. Deadline to turn in your Valentines pictures is Tuesday, February 12 at 5 p.m.

Pictures will be published on the Friona Star February 14 edition.

St. Ann’s Annual German Sausage Dinner will be on January 27, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the St. Ann’s Parish Hall on 3rd Street in Bovina. Donations will be $12 for adults and $6 for children under 6 years of age.

Congratulations to Mason Mirales as he made it to the Dean’s List for McMurry University. To be eligible for the Dean’s List a student must have maintained a 3.5 grade point average while taking twelve or more credit hours. Keep up the good work Mason, Friona is proud of you!

Friona ISD students in Kindergarten – 12th grades are eligible for parent or teacher nominations to the Gifted and Talented Program offered by Friona ISD for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents who desire to nominate their child for this program may contact the principal or counselor in their child’s building for the appropriate form. Forms need to be completed and returned to the principal by January 31, 2019. A certified Gifted and Talented teacher will administer the necessary tests for admission to the program.

The Annual Chamber Awards Banquet will be March 5th. The theme for this year’s banquet will be 50’s and 60’s. They will be having a silent auction during the banquet. If you have an auction item that you would like to donate please call the chamber and they will pick up the item. The funds made from the auction helps the chamber sponsor the extra activities through out the year. Your support is greatly appreciated.

The Friona Community Blood Drive conducted by Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be held Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 12-7 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 1500 Cleveland. The Friona Noon Lions will be serving up sausage wraps to all donors. Donors will receive a long sleeved t-shirt to help them stay warm. For the month of February, a once-a-week workshop on grief will be offered at the home of Mark and Deirdre Osborn. The event will take place every Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at 903 Arrah Ave, Friona Tx. If you, a friend, or loved one has been struggling with a recent loss and desire to learn positive coping strategies to deal with grief then this workshop is one that will be worth attending. The workshop material will be presented from a generalist perspective and is faith-based. A small group setting will be utilized to enable an enhanced workshop learning experience. The annual Primary School Book Fair will be held January 28-February 1 and will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a wide variety of books for all age groups. Bring the entire family, grandparents, and friends on the family nights; Tuesday, January 29 4:00-7:00p.m., Wednesday, January 30 4:00-6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 31 4:00-6:00p.m. Tuesday, January 29, will be Bingo night, so come and enjoy the fun of playing bingo! The proceeds from the book fair in the past have benefited the students and the campus. Some of the items purchased with the proceeds include; books for students, playground equipment, benches in the hallway, lending library, and shade trees. Primary Principal, Deirdre Osborn says, “This is one of our major fund raisers, so please come out and support our school as well as children’s literacy. Towards the end of 2018, after they have thought would be a regular doctor’s visit, Erik Cruz was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He has undergone his first round of chemo treatment. During this first round he had to spend close to a month in the hospital due to an abscess surgery on top of the chemo treatments. His body has responded well to treatment and he is getting ready to undergo his second chemo treatment this coming week. They are asking for funds to help with his medical bills.
