Clarence and Wynona Martin were crowned King and Queen last Thursday at the Friona Senior Citizens Valentine’s Day Party. Clarence and Wynona were married on June 22, 1947 and will celebrate their 72nd Wedding Anniversary this year.

Garret Wilson from Southwest Dairy Farmers gave a multi-media presentation of how dairy farms work. The students got to witness a “live” milking and learned about how dairy products provide them with quality nutrition. See more “Ag in the Classroom” photos in the Friona Star Newspaper.

Spelling bee champion has local ties

Isaac Elliott was the winner of a district-wide spelling bee held on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Forty-six students from all over the Corpus Christi Independent School District battled word for word at Veterans Memorial High School and after an intense spell-off, Isaac, an eighth-grader from Baker Middle School, took home the victory. Issac will advance to compete on national TV, in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Maryland at the end of May.

Area students learn about agriculture

Parmer County Farm Bureau hosted its annual “Ag in the Classroom” last Tuesday morning at the Friona Community Center. A total of 181 4th Graders from all over Parmer County attended the event. The total included 45 students from Bovina, 45 students from Farwell, 83 students from Friona, and 8 students from Lazbuddie. (more...)
