Friona Cemetery Association conducts annual meeting

The Friona Cemetery Association had their annual meeting on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Friona City Hall Council Chambers. Ballots for election of Board Members were tabulated along with the annual business meeting. The public was welcome to attend. Jyl Grimsley was nominated and voted in as our secretary to replace Mary Joyce Barnett. Mrs. Barnett has served on the Cemetery Association for 35 years and has been a huge asset to the board. She will continue to serve as a director.

Our new map for the cemetery provided by the City of Friona is still being designed by Intheden Graphics. This will be a great addition to our cemetery. The City has removed several dead trees and replacement trees will be added. The City is also hiring a part-time maintenance person for the cemetery and will work from May 1 thru August 1, 2019.

Annual dues are $35.00 and we welcome any donations for upkeep of our cemetery. The Cemetery Association’s aim and purpose is to assist the City of Friona in the care, maintenance, upkeep and improvement of our cemetery.

Our annual cleanup workday will the Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. If you have flowers or other decorations you want to keep, you need to get them before this time so they won’t be thrown away. Faded and old flowers and decorations will be thrown away at that time. This is open to the public and we would appreciate your help. The chapel will be open with drinks and cookies so please feel free to attend, even if you can’t help clean.

We also have memorial cards and your donation is acknowledged to the family you designate. Be sure to include your name and address so the person receiving the memorial card will have the proper address. Send to the Friona Cemetery Association, PO Box 823, Friona, TX 79035.
