Dorothy Ruth Johnston Prudhomme

Dorothy Ruth Johnston Prudhomme, age 63, passed from this life on April 1, 2019 after a five year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, James D. Johnston of Friona, TX and survived by her two sons, Andrew Son, wife Charlotte, and granddaughter Skyler of Copperas Cove, TX, Nathan Son of Lubbock, TX, mother Mary Johnston of Friona, TX, two brothers, Larry Johnston of Friona, TX, Bryan Johnston and wife Allison of Friona, TX, one sister, Diane Bryant and husband David of McKinney, TX, six nieces and four nephews.

Born in Fort Worth, TX on October 17, 1955, Dorothy moved to Friona, TX with her family in 1962. She attended Friona Public Schools for 12 years and graduated in 1974. After graduation she attended West Texas State University where she earned a degree in Music Education in 1978. She later earned a teaching certificate in Elementary Education before embarking on a teaching career that spanned almost 30 years with stops in Waco, Dallas, Tyler, Friona, and Richardson.

Music was Dorothy’s passion in life. While in college, she traveled and performed extensively with the WTSU Chorale. Later, she also performed with the Tyler Civic Chorale and the Longview Opera.

Shortly after retiring in 2014, Dorothy was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and moved to Lubbock to be closer to her family. During her five year battle with cancer, her extended family grew to include the ladies in her Sunday school class at Second Baptist Church Lubbock, her dear friend Glenda Richards, and all of the wonderful doctors and staff at UMC Southwest Cancer and Research Center. The love, concern, encouragement and care they provided was beyond compare. To each and every one of them we offer our heartfelt gratitude.

At Dorothy’s request, there will be no formal services. Condolences can be posted on the funeral home’s website at www.wilsonsfuneraldirectors.com/obituary/dorothy-prudhomme. A private celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.

While we mourn the loss of our mother, daughter, sister, and friend, we celebrate knowing that Dorothy’s beautiful and indomitable spirit will live on in our hearts forever.

Carol Dean Huggins

Carol Dean Huggins, 94 of Farwell passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at her home in Farwell. Celebration of Life Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Farwell with Rev. Pat Riley of Zephyr, Rev. Richard Laverty of Perryton and Rev. Russ Ponder, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Friona Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.

Carol Dean was born December 1, 1924 in Lorenzo, Texas to Carl Dewey and Martha Alvin Coldiron Carter. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 16, and that was a fact that she was very proud of. She graduated from Friona High School in 1942. Later she married Ennis Otis Huggins in December of 1956.

She worked for City Drug Store and Santa Fe Railroad, and was a homemaker. She was extremely active in her church First Baptist Church in Farwell where she also was a member. She loved watching any kind of sports especially when the grandchildren were involved. She was an avid Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Spurs, and Texas Tech fan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons-Lex Huggins and Carroll Huggins and 1 daughter-in-law-Alice Huggins.

Those to carry on her legacy include 1 daughter-Donna Cummings and husband Scott of Lubbock, 2 sons-Roy Dunn of Farwell, and Clive Huggins and wife Donna of Albuquerque, 3 sisters-Glenda Deatherage of Mesquite, Wynona Martin and husband Clarence of Friona, Zada Milholen of Irving, grandchildren-Kyle Cummings and wife Brandi of Bushland, Misti Smyth and husband Bill of Pagosa Springs, Stephanie Huggins and Leslie Huggins both of Albuquerque, Staci Huggins of Melrose, Dennis Huggins, Lisa Trevino and husband Edward, and Abraham Gomez, all of Clovis, great-grandchildren-Zack, Kaden and Rylan Cummings, Keaton and Ashley Smyth, Megan Cottingham, Amanda Hernandez, Mitchell Huggins, John Ryan Huggins, Taylor Huggins, Tanner Huggins, Miranda Trevino, Unique Trevino, Cisco Trevino, Alyssa Trevino, Angelica Trevino and Jordan Gomez.

Viewing will be from 9:00: a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019 with family visitation Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
