Deaf Smith County will celebrate its agriculture heritage and the steel plowhorses that have helped to achieve it at a Tractors in the Park Jubilee and Festival Saturday, June 22 in downtown Hereford and at Dameron Park and the Hereford Community Center. The event, sponsored by the Deaf Smith County Historical Society will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include a tractor parade and show, food vendors, games, a volleyball tournament, a toy meet and an arts and crafts show.

The 2019 Annual Comanchero Rendezvous will be on June 29 at the Comanchero Canyons Museum 200 S. 3rd St. Quitaque, Tx starting from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will be selling $8 Hamburgers for Lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

It’s time for Cheeseburger Festival cook team signups! You may find rules and registration forms at the Friona Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street or online at friona-chamber.com. The first 20 (paid) teams will be able to compete, and entry is non-refundable.

The Friends of the Library Book Shoppe, located at 119 West 6th, will change hours due to lack of air conditioning. From June through September, the book shop will be open Thursday mornings from 10-12.

The 50th season of the Friona Fine Arts Council’s Summer Drama Workshop will begin on Monday, July 8, for elementary and junior high students in the Friona High School Auditorium. The elementary show will rehearse from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for two weeks. The junior high show will rehearse from 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The high school actors will kick things off on Sunday, July 7, at 7:00 pm in the Friona High School Auditorium. They will rehearse in the evenings from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. The cost will be $25.00 per participant.

Steer Validation will be Monday, June 24th from 9-12 at Dr. Kennedy’s in Muleshoe. This will be for all steers regardless of FFA or 4-H.

The Friona City Pool is offering swimming lessons, water aerobics, and pool party rentals. They will be open from Tuesdays- Saturday and their regular hours are 1 p.m. - 5 p.m., swimming lessons from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., and party/ water aerobics hours 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.

The Friona Independent School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided from Monday through Friday at the Friona Elementary School Cafeteria serving breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This year’s Cheeseburger Festival will be an indoor/outdoor, afternoon/evening event (from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.) at Reeve Lake /Friona Community Center with celebration in some shape or form for the WHOLE WEEK prior! Stay tuned for a list of events that will kick off on Monday, July 15th and end with a bang on Saturday, July 20th.

The 4th Annual Friona Kids Building Camp will begin on July 9 through July 13! Kids ages 5 years old to 12 years old form groups to compete and build a temporary dwelling out of wood pallets for their sleepover.

This Friday June 21st, from 6:00-9:00 pm, the Don Harrington Discovery Center; 1200 Streit Drive Amarillo, will open during the evening hours for another ‘Discover for a Dollar’ event. Admission is only $1 per person. Members of the Discovery Center are admitted free. The public is invited to come and enjoy a hot summer evening inside the Discovery Center complete with Space Theater shows, live science demonstrations, and critter encounters.
