Created With Purpose is open and ready to serve

A purpose became reality last Thursday when a ribbon cutting ceremony was conducted to officially open a pregnancy resource center that will serve Parmer County and the surrounding area. Created With Purpose of West Texas is a vision-come-true for President Jill Morris and the rest of the Board of Directors whose desire was to have a facility and trained staff that could offer love and support for men and women facing some of the biggest decisions they may ever face.

Created With Purpose is located in the former Sherley Anderson office complex at 907 Highway 60 in Bovina, Texas. The building was donated to the resource center by heirs of the former grain elevator operators. Some minor construction was needed to ensure safety and confidentiality for all clients.

Board Member Annie Williams said "Our facility was patterned after "Open Door" which is a pregnancy resource center located in my hometown of Cisco, Texas. Also the Clovis Pregnancy Center was also used to help in designing the layout of the new center." Heartbeat International is the umbrella organization that provides direction and guidance to many resource centers.

All funding for Created With Purpose is from donors and no state or federal funds are requested or accepted. All services are free and confidential. The facility does not conduct or refer for abortions. Created With Purpose has contacts with all local hospitals and they hope to serve an area of at least a 100 mile radius of Bovina.

Joy Heerding is the Executive Director and brings valuable experience and expertise to the job. Marcia Thompson is the Administrative Assistant and is excited to get the word out to the community that there is a place to go when life presents its challenges. The trained staff offers love and support through mentorship, ultrasound, community resources and referrals to assist in pregnancy. Joy said, "We are always on the lookout for those individuals who want to help others. All potential volunteers undergo a full background check and will be given extensive training before becoming a member of the staff."

Created with Purpose of West Texas is a life-affirming organization striving to share the love of Christ with men and women facing pregnancy decisions in a safe, non-judgmental, encouraging environment through education, empowerment and love. They are ready to meet and help you. Some of the services offered include: pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, peer counseling, mentoring, community referrals, life skills classes, and much more.

Call (806) 251-4673 for more information or to schedule an appointment. Walk-Ins are always welcome. The facility is open 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. The email address is createdwithpurposewtx@gmail.com and the website is www.cwpwtx.com. You can also find them on Facebook and Instagram. Contact them today.

Phone scams have also been on the rise the past few weeks. DO NOT BUY GIFT CARDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! Local, state, or federal agencies do not use the phone to demand payments and will never ask for gift cards as payment. If someone calls demanding payment of any kind HANG UP THE PHONE!!!

The Friona Christian Ministries Community Thanksgiving Service scheduled for this Sunday evening has been cancelled. If you would like to make a donation to the Friona Christian Ministries, you can take your gift to your local church or drop it by First Baptist Church at 404 W. 5th. The "Christmas In Friona" open houses at Ivy Cottage, Milk House Market, Creative Chaos, and Desert Nomad were a hit the past week. Thanks to the owners of these businesses for helping to kick off the holiday season in style. See photos on back page.

The Friona Vocational Agriculture Association was right on the mark with its ham sale and that is no bull, literally. The group sold over 500 hams during the fundraising event. I personally have had sliced ham, ham sandwiches, and shredded ham on top of a four cheese pizza. Ham shakes are next! Proceeds benefit area 4-H and FFA kids. FYI, they are going to sell briskets for Christmas.

Christmas lights and banners are going up on light poles this week. Trevino's Welding & Millwright (TW&M LLC) is donating the manpower, time, and equipment for the yuletide installation. An early Merry Christmas to everyone at TW&M!!!
