Town Talk II

Enjoyed a Thanksgiving weekend in Denton. My daughter Megan lives there and goes to UNT. My son Casey lives in Frisco and oldest daughter Candee lives in Coppell so Denton was a central location for visiting. Son Zac came up from Austin for a short visit too. I left here on Thanksgiving day so avoided a lot of traffic. Was grateful for all the places that were open along the way for fuel and snacks.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about the impending fiscal cliff? Everyone is predicting gloom and doom but no one really knows what they are talking about, especially our politicians. Oh the agony of it all. (more...)

Arrow puts Friona on Quanah Parker Trail

A giant arrow landed in Friona on Tuesday November 27 at the Parmer County Museum, 210 W. 6th St. The arrow, courtesy of sculptor and artist Charles Smith of New Home, Texas, highlights the history and legacy of Comanche presence in Parmer County, placing the county on the Quanah Parker Trail.

A dedication day will be held Friday December 7 beginning at 10:45 a.m. at the Parmer County Museum and will be followed by a sausage wrap lunch from 12 – 1 p.m. at the museum. Everyone is invited to attend the activities. (more...)

Football contest final results, Dearing wins the grand prize

Week 12 was the end of the 2012 Friona Star Football Contest. We thank everyone who entered and especially thank our sponsors for making the contest possible.

The Week 12 winner with 12 of 15 correct guesses was Ivan Duran of Friona. He was the only contestant to pick 12 correct in the final week. Ivan wins the last weekly $25 cash prize. (more...)

Chiefs Squaws basketball

The Squaws edged the Slaton Tigerettes last week 38-35 at Slaton. Scoring were: Maddie Murphree 17, Dakotah Hicks 14, Marisol Posada 5, Brianna Miller 2. Tuesday this week in Friona the Squaws lost to the Farwell Lady Blue and will play in the Texico Tournament this weekend.

The Chiefs lost to the Slaton Tigers 62-50. Scoring were: Cole Stowers 24, Jake DeWit 6, Sawyer Osborn 5, Mason Loflin 3, Gavin Douglas 3, Dallin Woods 2, Saul Espino 4, Brad Stowers 4. (more...)
