The 2014 Friona High School Basketball King and Queen are Brad Stowers and Kendall Kimbrough. The seniors were crowned at last Friday’s games vs. Littlefield. It was the last home game for the girls. The JV and varsity boys host Muleshoe next Tuesday in their final game of the season.

At the Friona blood drive last Thursday several high school students were first time donors. This is Johnna Thompson and her first experience as a blood donor. The Coffee Memorial technician is Micaela Lopez. There were 59 donations made.

Town Talk II

A trace of snow Tuesday morning, not enough to measure. Plenty of snow and icy conditions around the Panhandle though. Was supposed to be brutal low temps Wednesday and Thursday and not too warm this weekend either. Bundle up and be safe if you are driving.

Enjoyed the Chieftains baseball team pancake supper Friday night at the high school cafeteria. The portions were generous, with plenty of butter, syrup, and juice. The baseball boys were quick to pick up plates and wipe off the sticky tables. Coach Haddock said thanks to everyone who participated. The boys did scrimmage the Hereford JV Monday at 4:00 p.m. The word is that it was pretty cold for baseball.

We learned that young Lucas Dickson, son of Becky and Dr. Jeff, had an emergency appendectomy last Thursday night about 11:00 p.m. Last we heard he was recovering nicely at home. (more...)

New districts, old foes

The UIL announced its district realignments on Monday. Districts throughout Texas are realigned every two years. The new districts will be in effect for the 2014-15, 2015-16 school years.

For starters, all districts were moved up one classification beginning with the 2014 year. Instead of 2A Friona will now participate in 3A. Big schools formerly in 5A will be classified in 6A, etc. Teams that were competing in six-man are now classified as 1A. (more...)
