Sprucing up the city park. City employees Richard Samarron, top, and Richie Perez were busy Tuesday trimming the trees in the park. The annual Cheeseburger Festival Cookoff and Car Show will be held at the park Saturday July 19. Summer officially begins June 21.

Town Talk II

The FHS Class of 2014 graduation was hastily moved from the football field to the junior high auditorium Friday night. A rain storm blew in around 6:00 p.m. and was still raining at 6:30 p.m. The decision came about one hour before the 8:00 p.m. graduation and was quite a scramble to move people, graduates, diplomas, sound systems, etc. But it all worked out and the students still received their diplomas.

Prairie Acres/Heritage Estates news: Administrator Billy Ray Johnston says there are three openings at Heritage and about ten openings at Prairie Acres. A family council meeting will be held June 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the boardroom. If you have a family member at Prairie Acres you are invited to attend. They would like your input. Resident of the month for June is Mayme Gee. Employee of the month is Mario Carrasco, a nurse aide who has been employed since August 1999. A new client at Heritage is Linda Brownlow. (more...)

Council agenda looks brief

The Friona city council will meet in regular session Monday June 9 at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at 619 Main St. All council meetings are open to the public.

The tentative agenda has six business items to consider, all of which should be approved quickly. As always one of the first agenda items is to hear comments from the public.

A resolution granting Atmos Energy the franchise and rights to conduct business within the city of Friona will be considered. The council will take action on approval of a Texas Municipal League intergovernmental employee benefits plan for city employees for 2014-2015. (more...)

Summer drama workshop

The annual Summer Drama Workshop will be held July 7 - 19 with shows presented on Friday July 18 and Saturday July 19.

Elementary kids, age 5 to completed 5th grade, will rehearse from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the high school auditorium. Director is Allison Johnston.

Junior high thespians, completed 6th to completed 8th grade, will rehearse from 1:30 - 4:00 p.m. Director is Joy Morton. (more)
