Enough already! Woke up Tuesday morning with another dusting of snow on the ground. Wasn't supposed to snow until Tuesday night into Wednesday. Hopefully by the time you read this the warm weather they promised will have melted it all away. Been a nice run but ready for some sun.

Greg Lewellen told me the annual Pudge Kendrick Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Hereford Country Club in late July. Details will be provided later. The popular tournament benefits the Parmer County Cancer Coalition.

Anniversary congratulations to Andy and Julia Alexander for 18 years and Susan and Lucky Gonzales for 46 years. Now that the new year is here send us info on your wedding anniversaries.

Girl Scout cookie sales start Friday January 16 through February. They will be around town, probably at some of the basketball games, and elsewhere. The cookies are $4.00 a box. If you don't find a Girl Scout you can call Sharon Rector at 806-677-4664 or Sophie Ortiz at 432-978-0702. Sharon sasys the local Girl Scout group is growing and they would appreciate your support.

The Noon Lions Club and the local Subway are providing Subway sandwiches for Friona blood drive donors Thursday January 15 from noon to 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. No appointment needed. Come over, give the gift of life, and have a Sub Sand.

The Chamber of Commerce needs your nominations for the citizen awards that are presented at the Chamber banquet. This year the banquet is March 26. Nominations for Citizen, Man, Woman, Teacher, Boy & Girl Student, and Most Courteous Employee are needed. Nomination forms are available at the Chamber office or on their web page, frionachamber.com. Nominations due by March 6.

The Parmer County Detention Center, better known as the jail, had a surprise state inspection last week. Sheriff Randy Geries said they passed the inspection, earning the best rating ever.

It is grandbaby time again. Jimmy and Jayson Grimsley became grandpas again as Kyle up in Dalhart had a baby son and Justin down in Arlington also had a baby son. More cousins, more grandbabies. Congrats to Jyl & Jayson and Jimmy & Barbara and the proud parents.

Also Grandma Randie Hamilton welcomed three new grandbabies in November courtesy of sons Cory and Chad. Twins for Chad. Their photos and announcements are elsewhere in this Star. It is a grandparents kind of year.

It is stock show season. The local Friona show is Saturday January 17. Begins at noon with brisket lunch available and show time is 1:00 p.m. Next week is the County show. Animal exhibition is Thursday January 22 beginning at 8:00 a.m. The premium sale is Saturday January 24 at 1:00 p.m. See the show schedule elsewhere in this Star.

Monday January 19 is Martin Luther King Day. The banks and post office will be closed.

Several folks managed to slip and fall during the recent icy conditions. I wasn't one of them but I do try to be cautious at all times about falling. I hope you do too. Be well. Until then!
