Parmer County Chief Appraiser Jill Timms addresses the Friona city council at Monday's meeting. After her presentation the council adopted a .7512 per $100 of assessed value tax rate, a decrease from the previous rate of .7979. Official weather guy John Gurley reports that Friona received a total 1.35" of rain Saturday and Sunday evenings, .90" Saturday and .45" Sunday night. Altogether, year-to-date, Friona has received 21.78". The rain and wind drove the Youth Dayz events inside. Saturday night the burgers and fries were served and musical equipment set-up on the football field but about 7:30 p.m. the rain came and the event moved into the high school gym. Sunday night's activities were supposed to be at the football field but were moved to the junior high auditorium. (more...)

Council approves lower tax rate
