Ezequial Constancio waited patiently while Ana Briones readied the equipment at the Friona Blood Drive at Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday, August 20. A record seventy-five donations were given. The donors were treated to hamburgers from the Friona Noon Lions.

The Friona fire department's annual 4-wheeler raffle is underway. Fire Chief Jim Taylor is shown with the new Polaris Ace to be given away in a drawing September 19 at the city park during Maize Days. The ATV comes with a trailer too. Tickets are $10 and available from any fireman or at 4-Way Pump.

Friona Chieftain football games will be broadcast live on KNNK 100.5 FM, online at knnkradio.com, and on WT Services channel 6. Local guys Andy Montana and Darrel Ray will do the play-by-play. If you can't make it to the games tune in and support the Big Red.

The Friona Star football contest has been discontinued. The contest endured for many years but participation had been dwindling and we felt it was no longer a viable project for the newspaper. (more...)

Football contest cancelled

The Friona Star football contest has been officially discontinued. In spite of our loyal sponsor support over the years, individual participation has been decreasing so we have decided to cancel the contest.

It takes a lot of effort and coordination to manage the contest, select the games, collect and score the entries, and keep up with the standings. Many of our long time regular participants have passed on, moved away, or lost interest for other reasons. (more...)

KNNK to broadcast all Chieftain games

KNNK Radio has announced that all 2015 Chieftain football games will be broadcast live, including the Friday night August 28 opener vs. Olton. Play-by-play announcers will be local guys Andy Montana and Coach Darrel Ray. (more...)
