Official weather guy John Gurley said we received 0.27” of rain Monday night. At 10-mile corner they received 0.70”. Total here in town for April is 0.30”.

The senior meals folks have announced they will now have Mexican pile-on two times a month, the first Monday and the third Thursday. All seniors are invited to the meals which are served Monday and Thursday every week.

Mark your calendars and make your lunch reservations. Mother’s Day is Sunday May 8. Better go see Misty, Mayra, or Crystal for that special Mother’s Day gift.

The annual meeting of the Friends of the Friona Public Library is at 2:00 p.m. Sunday April 24 at the Redeemer Center, 13th and Virginia. Refreshments, basket drawings, and a short business meeting. Everyone is welcome. See you there.

My calendar says Kids Inc. baseball starts Monday April 25. There is a new scoreboard on the west baseball field. Good luck to all of the kids and coaches. And parents!

I was watching some college girls’ softball over the weekend and noted there was no grass in the infield. Made me wonder so looked it up. Turns out the ball goes faster on dirt. Since the softball bases are closer than baseball the dirt helps infielders get the ball to first base quicker.

Happy birthday to my oldest child, Candee Holmes down in Coppell, Texas. She will be 50 Sunday April 24. Also to my son Zac down in Austin who will turn 27 May 3. I have a daughter that is 50 and a daughter that is 25 with another daughter and two sons in between. Glad I can still even remember their birthdays.

My computer crashed and died last week. Thanks to online ordering and FedEx I had a new one by Tuesday afternoon this week. I hate to admit it but I didn’t realize how much I depend on a computer. Spent Monday and part of Tuesday writing stuff in longhand on a yellow tablet. Regardless of how much we depend on computers I will never own a driverless car.

The Chieftain baseball team is 4-2 in district with two games left in the season. They lost 2-0 to #2 state ranked Shallowater Saturday. Their only two losses have been to the Mustangs. The Chiefs beat Muleshoe 5-1 Tuesday, play Littlefield here Friday at 4:30 p.m. and travel to Dimmitt Tuesday April 26. Friday is senior parents day. Parents will be introduced prior to the game, probably about 4:00 p.m. Playoff information will be available next week.

The school board election early voting starts Monday April 25 and ends May 3. The election will be Saturday May 7. Early voting is at the Friona ISD admin office and election day voting is at Friona city hall. Three candidates will be on the ballot for two openings. Candidates are Becky Riethmayer, Ricky Barnett, and Maria Monreal Garcia.

The Clovis News Journal has reported that a Chipotle Restaurant and Buffalo Wild Wings will open at the northeast corner of Prince and Llano Estacado in the former Golden Corral building. Chipotle and Wild Wings will occupy the building with separate entrances. Interior remodeling is underway as we speak and they say they may be open in about three months or so.

The Church of Christ senior class banquet is Monday April 25 at 6:30 p.m. Victory Family Worship Center senior banquet is Monday May 9 also at 6:30 p.m. We try to keep all local events updated on our community calendar on page two.
