Friday, November 10 will be a busy day. The Friends of the Library will be serving breakfast to area veterans at the Redeemer Center starting at 7 a.m. Friona High School will be honoring area veterans at their annual Veterans Day program, which begins at 10 a.m. in the gym.

The FHS Chieftains and Squaws Booster Club will be hosting a tailgate party at the FHS parking lot starting at 5:30 p.m.

FHS Senior Night begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Chieftains hosting the Slaton Tigers at 7:30 p.m.

Put a big red circle around Sunday, November 19. From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. St. Teresa’s Catholic Church will be serving up turkey and dressing. At 4 p.m. “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” will be presented at the FHS Auditorium. And end your evening with the Annual Community Thanksgiving Service at Calvary Baptist Church at 6 p.m.

The Parmer County Cancer Coalition Annual Cancer Survivor’s Dinner is Thursday, November 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.

The Friona Junior High One Act Play won 1st place at the District JH UIL contest on Monday, November 6, 2017. The play, “The Actor’s Nightmare”, written by Christopher Durang, was directed by Zac Carr.

The Friona JH cast consisted of Dieter Ally, Breanna Rivera, Melody Upton, Jarrett White, Amy Montana, Reese Stowers, Ellie McEuen, and Tim Ally. Crew members were Stef Ally, Caleb Geske, Nicole Guerra, and Lizbeth Toledo. Earning superlatives at the contest were Dieter Ally, Best Actor; Amy Montana, Best Actress; Breanna Rivers, All-Star Cast; and Melody Upton, Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.

The public performance of the play will be Tuesday, November 14, 2017, 6:30 p.m., at the Friona High School Auditorium, and is free of charge and open to all.

Help the Friona Chamber of Commerce LIGHT UP the City Park at Christmas in the Park on December 4. Adopt a tree by stopping by the Chamber before December 4. Santa will be arriving at the City Park for Christmas in the Park at 4:30 p.m. and the Lighted Christmas Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. To adopt a tree call the Chamber office at (806) 250-3491. Mini-Sessions with Santa will be Milk House Market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 11.

Christmas in Friona with the local merchants is planned for Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18. Merchants participating are Bi-Wize, Creative Chaos, Interior Expressions, Ivy Cottage, KrafTee Gallery, and Milk House Market. Everyone is invited to check out Christmas gift ideas at all of these businesses.

There will be a Health and Wellness Screening at the Friona Community Center on Tuesday, November 14 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. sponsored by the Texas Health and Human Services and the Texas Department of State Health Services. Free services will include: TB screen/risk screens, Blood pressure checks, BMI, Immunizations, Blood draws for HIV/STD testing, CO screening/smoking cessation, Child passenger safety checkups, and Family and winter preparedness.

Parmer County Commissioner will meet at 10 a.m. in Farwell.

Friona City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers on Main Street.

Friona Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the FISD Administration Building.
