Many of our readers have noticed that Ron has been missing from the day-to-day operations of the Friona Star. Ron was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago and has been going to many doctor appointments both here and in Amarillo. He was first diagnosed with a tumor in his left lung, which is inoperable. After a PET scan it was determined the cancer had not spread to other areas. He will endure another biopsy this week. I will try to keep you up-to-date on his condition. SP4K benefit changes lives one child at a time

Hunger is a serious subject and when that hunger is a child’s it is even more serious. The Parmer County Snack Pak 4 Kids program got a boost Saturday, April 1 at the Hi-Pro Feeds the Future benefit held at Country Rose. The Lucky Duck drawing, silent auction and live auction brought in approximately $64,000. The funds will be used to supply backpacks for food-insecure children in Parmer County. (more...)

Pre-K Registration April 17-21

Friona Primary Principal Ashley Smith announced recently they will hold the 2017-2018 Pre-K and new student registration April 17-21 at the Primary School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day except on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (more...)

Friona Blood Drive April 13

The place to be Thursday, April 13 from noon to 7 p.m. is at the Friona Community Blood Drive at Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 1500 Cleveland. The Friona Noon Lions Club will be dishing up chili dogs and their World Famous fries to all that present to donate blood. Donors will receive a baseball themed t-shirt and be entered into a drawing to win a summer getaway package which includes: 4 Texas Rangers Lexus Club Level baseball tickets and a two-night hotel stay (courtesy of Buzula Furniture); $200 gas card (courtesy of Valero); and 4 Hurricane Harbor tickets (courtesy of KAMR-TV/KCIT-TV).
