Wesley Barnett, son of David and Heather Barnett of Little Rock, Arkansas was named Arkansas Junior Player of the Year by the Arkansas Tennis Association at a banquet held in Little Rock on January 12, 2018. Wes has consistently been ranked #1 in Arkansas since the age of 12. He is a junior and trains at the John Newcomb Tennis Academy in New Braunfels, Texas. He is the grandson of Wesley and Doris Barnett. They went to Las Vegas last weekend to a tournament and saw Wes win first place in both the singles and doubles competition. Way to go Wes!

In this exciting new addition, you will find a history of the Friona Fire Dept., accident and fire reports, requirements for being a firefighter, town events, and more. Opportunities to contribute to this website will present themselves in the future, so be sure to frequent their page for updated information.

With the flu virus going around, be sure to take appropriate steps to avoid getting the sickness. Washing your hands, taking daily vitamins, drinking lots of fluids/water, and getting restful sleep are all great ways to prevent the spread of the flu. Gin Breaks Record

Records are meant to be broken and this record really needed to go. The goal was to break 35,422 bales ginned in a season. That mark was set in the year 2000, or Y2K if your memory allows you to go back that far. Yes, the same Y2K that terrorized the country at the turn of the century. Well Y2K is gone and so is the record. The new standard is 36,353 bales. No sophomore jinx for Duncan Welch. The second-year manager of the Friona Farmers Co-Op is already looking forward to breaking the record again. (more...)

Chieftain Choices Career Fair

Allison Johnston needs to know if there are any businesses who are planning to come and be a part of our Chieftain Choices Career Fair on Friday, Feb. 9, but have not returned their form, or contacted her. There is still room and time for them to be a part of this event. She just need to know if they are coming, so that she can make the appropriate arrangements for tables and chairs and folders with information. Businesses can call her at 806-250-3951 or email her at ajohnsto@frionaisd.com. They will also be having a college fair, a health focus room and a speaker to round out the day. Businesses will have an opportunity to speak with students from all grade levels from 8th grade through seniors.
