Goodbye June, Hello July! Summer sure is flying by! Let’s welcome the new month with a few facts about people born in July. People born in July are said to prioritize family above all else. They are also considered calm when it comes to everyday life, they just breeze right through. Some even say those with July Birthdays are extremely curious and often give good advice. Lastly, it’s believed that they forget bad experiences over time and don’t hold grudges. Do any of your friends and family born in July share any of these characterisitics? (more...)

Results are in, we need more rain!!!

We are halfway through the year and 2018 is now on record as the second driest January-June period of the last decade. Weather guru John Gurley reports that as of June 30th, Friona has officially received 3.42 inches of rain for the year. The only six month span with less rainfall to begin the year was in 2011 when only 1.76 inches was recorded. So far, 2011 was also the driest year of the decade. On the opposite end of the gauge, 2015 had a total of 15.70 inches by the end of June and last year we had recorded 9.11 inches at this same time.

For the year 2018 we have received measurable precipitation on 17 of the 181 days. No moisture was recorded in January and May had the most rain with 1.24 inches recorded. The largest rainfall amount was .66 inches on June 9th. On a more positive note, we have received good rains in July and August the past 5 years. (more...)
