Around midnight on Tuesday, October 8th, a truck driver heading west on U.S. Highway 60 reportedly had a tire blow out causing him to leave the highway, crash through the guardrail, plunge into the draw near the feedyard west of Bovina. The draw is approximately 60 yards wide where the truck went in. Luckily the truck did not flip or turn over and there were no cattle in the trailer. The driver refused medical attention at the scene. K3 Towing of Friona was contacted to lift the truck out of the draw.

There will be a Meet & Greet at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday, October 15th at Prairie Acres. Make sure to go by and meet Amy Skiles, the new interim administrator. Amy and her husband have a 15 year old son and two “spoiled” dogs. (more...)

Special Election for amendments and Parmer County’s new voting machines

This past week, we received training on our new ExpressVote Machines. These machines meet all the requirements for security set by the Texas Secretary of State and Election Code. They will be in use during early voting and on Election Day this year. (more...)

Sometimes it does pour when it rains

Friona and Parmer County received their share and more of rain during the multiple weather events at the beginning of October. The “monsoonal flow” brought moisture up from the Gulf of Mexico and combined with several north “fronts” to produce ideal rain conditions. Nearly all of Parmer County received rain with the most common amounts being 5-6 inches. Several other locations, including the Hub area, received over 11 inches of rain. A one-car accident at the Hub intersection on Tuesday, October 1st was attributed to “standing water” on the highway. The rain was well received by all especially since it was so hot and dry during August and September. (more...)
