School Board calls for $19M Bond Election
By a vote of 6-1, the Board of Trustees of the Friona Independent School District approved an motion calling for a $19 million bond election. The Board also hired the Underwood Law Firm as bond counsel. The call for a bond election was a result of over a year’s worth of consultation with the the architecture and engineering firm Parkhill, Smith, & Cooper; Vince Vialle of the firm Specialized Public Finance; and a local steering group of business owners, former teachers & administration staff, and community leaders.

Sheriff welcomes new Deputy

The Parmer County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the hiring of a new Deputy Sheriff. Yurban Salinas was sworn in on February 11, 2018 as the newest addition to the Sheriff’s Office. Yurban, a 2012 graduate of Friona High School, is already licensed and certified as a Texas jailer and peace officer. “I am pleased to have Yurban return to Friona and I enjoy the chance to invest in young people from our area,” said Sheriff Randy Geries. FCCLA visits the Lion’s den

(l-r) Vanessa Chavez, Natali Godinez and Rayna Clark, all FCCLA officers, gave a presentation to the Lion’s Club last Thursday. Their presentation Is titled “Diving into a New Language.” They are in the occupational class, “Practicum of Education and Training.” This class planned an 8-week program that worked with our English Language Learners. This program focused on the immersion style of teaching a new language.(more...)
