The sun shines through the Old Depot windows Wednesday morning and snow begins to melt after the area received a dusting of snow Tuesday night. The depot is the center of many activities in the community. The Depot Heritage Society board met Monday evening. The group oversees the upkeep and maintenance of the landmark. Funds are needed to replace several windows. If you or your organization would be interested in donating funds contact Bill White or Nancy Edelmon.

Town Talk II

by Ron Carr

The burn ban is still in effect in the county. Our drought conditions continue. Fortunately fire calls have been quiet. The volunteer firemen did answer a fire call about 5:20 p.m. Sunday at CR 12 and CR G west of Friona. It was a small fire and was quickly extinguished. Some old dead trees had caught on fire. One fireman said it looked like someone had been cutting firewood with a chain saw. Be careful during these dry times. We did receive a dusting of snow Tuesday night. Grass was covered Wednesday morning but it was gone by midday.

Oops! I got busy (or forgetful) and did not open the front door to the office Monday. The closed sign was up all day but we were here. If you came by and saw the closed sign I apologize. Wish I could say it will never happen again but we will work to “open” Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, our normal open hours. Regular customers know to come around to the back door to see if we are here. Apologies if you were inconvenienced.

Choir selling singing valentines

The Friona High School choir is once again selling singing valentines. Due to a scheduling conflict with the director, the valentines will be delivered on Tuesday, February 12. They are still only $10 each.

Your valentine will get a love song sung to them, choreographed by the students, and a personalized valentine card from you. This is a major fundraiser for the choir. Proceeds will help the students earn money for the spring trip in May.

Valentines can be ordered from any Friona high school choir member or by calling Allison Johnston at 806-220-1610, or by email at ajohnsto@frionaisd.com. Leave a phone number or email address where you can be reached and she will get back to you as quickly as possible. (more...)
