The 2015 Friona High School basketball King and Queen are Alexis Alvarado and Cole Stowers. They were recognized at Tuesday's games vs. Littlefield. It was senior night and parents of the senior cheerleaders, basketball players, powerlifters, and cross country were honored.

Monday February 16 is Presidents Day. The banks and post office and city hall will be closed. Friona schools will be closed Friday February 13 and school will be in session Monday. I liked it better when it was Washington's birthday. He was born February 22, 1732 and died December 14, 1799. The Noon Lions will be putting out the American flags around town to celebrate President's Day. (more...)

The Friona city council chambers at 619 Main St. have been remodeled with new hardwood floors and a rebuilt riser for the council members. City employees painted the room. From left are Alan Monroe, Martha Barker, city manager Patricia Phipps, Mayor Rick White, Bruce Fleming, Nancy Davis, and Greg Lewellen. There are three vacancies coming up for election to the council. Applications are available at city hall. Deadline is February 27.
