Ronald Dean "Ron" Smiley

Ronald Dean “Ron” Smiley, 77, of Friona, died Friday, June 5, 2015 in Amarillo. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the 6th St. Church Of Christ in Friona with David Minson, of Lubbock, and Pat Mannon, of Huntsville Arkansas, officiating. Burial followed in the Friona Cemetery under the direction of Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home in Friona.

Ron was born March 17, 1938 in Duncan Flat, Texas to David Preston and Artie Bell Mobley Smiley. He married Melba Bracken December 8, 1957 in Friona. He was very active in community affairs in Friona. He was manager of the Friona Wheat Growers for many years and then after his retirement he began working for Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home and at age 76 graduated from the Amarillo College School of Mortuary Science and became a Texas licensed Funeral Director. He led by example serving God, his family and others.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings Thelma Lou Brantley and David Smiley.

Survivors include his wife Melba of Friona; one son, Mitchell Smiley and wife Kim of Friona; two daughters, Cindy Butman and husband Jerry of Lubbock, and Vickie Field and husband Dennis of Friona; two sisters, Olive Massie of Friona and Goldie Sweeney of San Diego, California; one brother, C.W. Smiley of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
