Fourth of July plans shaping up

The Friona Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture began with a small kernel of an idea to celebrate Independence Day 2015 and now it has began to grow and blossom into a celebration.

A 5K run will begin with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the playground area at Reeve Lake. The run will begin at 8 a.m. from the playground.

The 2nd Annual Neighborhood parade will kick off at 10 a.m. from Crystal Moroney’s home at 1606 West 10th. Everyone is encouraged to decorate bikes, golf carts, gators, or just come out and walk in this growing tradition. There will be goodie bags and dairy treats for the children.

At 11:15 a.m. another 4th of July parade will start at Prairie Acres Nursing Home at 201 East 15th and travel west on 15th Street to Reeve Lake. If you are interested in joining in the fun contact the Chris or Betty at the Chamber at (806) 250-3491.

The community is encouraged to come out and enjoy the parades and stay at Reeve Lake for a day filled with picnics, fishing and good times. Anyone under the age 17 can fish without a license.

Vendors will be descending upon Reeve Lake at 5 p.m. They will be setting up on the east side of the row of trees beside the RV Park. To date there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, Frito pie, drinks, a bouncy house and a dunking booth with more to come. If you are interested in sponsoring a booth, contact the Chamber office by Friday, June 26.

Plans for the Reeve Lake Sand Volleyball Tournament will be announced closer to the event.

The crowning glory will be the fireworks display which will light up the night sky. The display will begin at dark and put on by the Friona Fire Volunteer Department.

The event is co-hosted by the Friona Chamber of Commerce and the Parmer County Cancer Coalition.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy an old-fashioned hometown 4th of July.
