Football contest cancelled
The Friona Star football contest has been officially discontinued. In spite of our loyal sponsor support over the years, individual participation has been decreasing so we have decided to cancel the contest.
It takes a lot of effort and coordination to manage the contest, select the games, collect and score the entries, and keep up with the standings. Many of our long time regular participants have passed on, moved away, or lost interest for other reasons.
We appreciate those who have supported and participated in the contest over the years. It is time now to retire the football contest to the archives and direct our efforts toward producing more news and features in our community newspaper.
