At the Veterans Day program at the high school November 11 plaques were presented to the school with names of veterans who were FHS graduates. Someone later asked if we could publish the names of the veterans included on the plaques. We finally have the list and it is printed in this Friona Star. They are arranged by graduation dates. Any corrections or additions to the list should be directed to Imelda Saucedo at the high school, 250-3951.

Coach David Woods has advised that his Son Dallin Woods was selected by the Texas Sports Writers Association as an All-State relief pitcher. Dallin is a senior this year. Chieftain baseball is coached by coaches Quiroz and Woods.

A couple of what were they thinking headlines: 1) Man claiming to be Jesus plotted to kidnap Obama's dog. 2) British teen used cans of deodorant in lieu of bathing died from inhaling gas.

Congratulations to Miss Brooklynne Johnston who made 2nd chair alto in the TMEA small school all-state mixed choir. She performed with the choir in San Antonio.

Former Prairie Acres/Heritage Estates administrator Billy Ray Johnston said he was terminated by the new management on Tuesday this week. Wish Billy Ray all the best.

Here is a comment from Coach Ray when asked how the Squaws did at Shallowater Tuesday: "They beat us 70-20. We shot 11%, couldn't pitch it in the ocean. They were good defenders but we helped a lot. A season high 25 turnovers didn't help." The Squaws are 1-1 in district and host Dimmitt here Friday night. Friday night Jan 15 will be the district opener for the Chieftains.

The Friona Blood Drive is Thursday January 21 from 12-7:00p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Look for the flyer printed in this Star for details.

The 60th annual Chamber of Commerce banquet will be Tuesday, March 8. Silent auction will begin at 6:00 p.m. The Chamber Business of the Month for January is K-3 Towing.

WT Services has announced a rate hike of some kind early in 2016. The rate increase applies to all WT Services video packages.

Scholarship applications from WT Services will be available in school counselor offices by January 15. Scholarships are open only to students whose parents or guardians are WT Services customers. Applications are also available at the Friona WT Services office, 1010 Columbia.
