James Edwards, a representative from AirMedCare, spoke to the city council Monday evening about the cost of a medical helicopter flight and snake bite venom. He said the average cost now of a helicopter transfer to Amarillo or Lubbock is $35,000, up from $25,000 last year. He told the council that the LifeStar helicopters no longer carry snake bite medicine on board. He said one dose of snake bite antidote costs from $12,000 to $15,000 and it takes four doses.

He proposed offering the AirMedCare helicopter plan to city employees. For $65 per year all members of your household are covered. The plan pays the airlift cost that is not covered by your health insurance. I have the plan and the card in my wallet. You should definitely have this. It has already paid off for several local residents. Pick up an application at PMC. There is no medical exam just a few questions. It’s easy. Go do it.
