Town Talk II

by Ron Carr

This Town Talk space is kind of thin this week. Long weekend holiday, people out of town, and not a great deal happening around town. We lost two fine citizens in the past few days, Roy O’Brian and Betty Talley. Our sympathies to the families.

Many thanks to our volunteer firemen who continue to serve the community. Thursday June 30 firemen and EMS were dispatched to a grass fire that was close to a house at FM1172 and FM2397. This happened right in the middle of the firemen’s family dinner at the fire station. Sunday night July 3 several firemen responded to a wind damage call at the Cottonwoods Apartments. Wind knocked off portions of the apartment roof where the gas lines are. They had to evacuate several apartments. Monday at 11:00 p.m. fire and EMS were paged to the 400 block of Prospect for a gas line leak. Someone ran into a pole and broke a gas line. It was a hit and run. This was after the firemen volunteered to shoot the fireworks at Reeve Lake that same night. We appreciate our first responders.

The Prairie Times newsletter from Prairie Acres/Heritage Estates reports a new Prairie Acres administrator has been hired. She is Rhonda Pemberton and she will begin July 25. I believe Rhonda comes from the big city Dallas area. Also the new management team is Loree Tamayo Consulting.

Tricia Rocha, Director of Nursing, says they are interested in starting up a family counsel again at the nursing home. Any family member interested should stop by and visit with Tricia.

Helen Carthel and Sarah Owen are two new clients at Heritage Estates. The Prairie Acres resident of the month is Charles Gilbreath. The employee of the month is Eneida Rodriguez who is an attendant at Heritage Estates since June 2012.

Want to thank our managing editor Dana Jameson for covering all of the July 4 weekend activities and our graphics guy Nathan Parson who puts them all in their place. I couldn’t do without those two. Many of Dana’s photos are in today’s Star. I went to the Bovina 4th of July parade. Unfortunately, there were not many participants. It started at 10:00 a.m. and by 10:15 I was on my way back to Friona. See you next week in the city park. Until then!
