Town Talk

Got a call this week from David Brumley at Bootleg. He was thanking everyone that came out to help put out the fire that burned 125 acres but missed houses and winter hay due to their help.

It is great to live in a rural community. First responders and neighbors helped Brumley at his time of need. He said that people just kept showing up to help.

We live in a pretty awesome area!

Earlier this year I participated in the Chieftain Choices College and Career Fair. I found it very interesting and informative for those students who were looking for a good fit for their lives after high school. FHS will once again be hosting this event to be held Friday, February 9 at the Activity Center. If you want to be a part of this educational day, contact Allison Johnston at (806) 250-3951.

FLAMINGO SIGHTED IN FRIONA…Monday morning Mike & Becky Riethmayer and Nathan & Crystal Moroney were greeted by their yards filled with bright pink flamingos grazing among their Christmas decorations. The Friona United Methodist Church youth group had placed the flocks of flamingos in their yards as part of their fundraising project. Keep an eye out…your hard could be next.

Bobby and Shirley Daniel stopped by this week to get a subscription to the Friona Star. Bobby went to school here and has been in Dumas for about 50 years before moving back to Friona about a year ago. You may remember Bobby being on the front page when he was harvesting earlier this year. Welcome back Bobby and Shirley.

The FHS FFA has moved into their newly remodeled Ag Farm east of Friona. A number of investors worked with the FISD Board of Trustees to get the farm remodeled and in better shape for the animals and students. Additional space was built on to the goat and sheep barn as well as a sidewalk area for the students to work with their animals out of the elements. An awning was added and new gates are being built by the students. An additional pig barn was built to upgrade the facility and give more space for students to work with their pigs. Check it out sometime.
