Valentine’s Day was a special day for a residents at Friona Heritage Estates and Prairie Acres. Miss Friona Sydney Frye was on hand at Prairie Acres to congratulate the 2017 Valentine King Bill Bailey and Queen Dora Parson. The residents were treated to a Valentine party complete with cherry pie and ice cream. Left, Christine Zorns was named 2017 Valentine Sweetheart at Friona Heritage Estates. She received a dozen chocolate roses, one single rose and a teddy bear complete with a big red Valentine balloon. The residents enjoyed a party prior to the Prairie Acres party. dana jameson photo

First responders were called out to a one-vehicle accident Monday afternoon two miles south on Highway 214. The driver of a 2013 Dodge Ram lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole while on his way to work. DPS, Parmer County Sheriff’s Office, Friona Police, EMS, and Fire responded to the scene. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Parmer Medical Center as a precaution. dana jameson photo

Happy 47th Anniversary to Rex and Darla Bracken, center. The were married on Valentine’s Day. Congratulations Rex and Darla. Also celebrating an anniversary on Tuesday were Ruben and Imelda Saucedo. They have been married for 17 years.

Friona Junior High School Principal Mark Sundre, right, addressed the FISD Board of Trustees on Monday evening. He informed them of the Junior High School safety plan and other activities. He has submitted his resignation effective at the end of the 2016-17 school year. He thanked the board for 9 great years.
