We heard from former Friona Star employee Marlene Mueller on Wednesday. She and her husband, Joe, will be celebrating 50 years of marital bliss on Friday, March 24. They will be celebrating with their family and friends Saturday with dinner at Hoffbrau in Amarillo. Congratulations to this lovely couple and our friends!

Lindsey Hoyle is advertising on Facebook that she is offering personalized lawn chairs. They come in kids’ sizes with a pop up tray and come in green or pink. The chairs have the child’s name on the front and back for $30 plus tax. The big kids and adult chairs are personalized on the front only for $20 plus tax. Noticed that Dennis Field posted that Frio Draw Driving School will be offering teenager driver’s education classes at Farwell ISD for $375. Enrollment has started. Call or text to enroll at (806) 265-7635. There will be two prices for the class. 1-$375 which includes 32 hours of classroom work, getting a learners permit and 14 hours of in the car driving with Dennis. 2-$200 that includes 32 hours of classroom work and getting a learners permit.

They held the Blood Drive lunch this week and discussed the upcoming Blood Drive on April 13 at Calvary Baptist Church. Every eligible donor who presents to donate will receive a baseball themed t-shirt and be entered into a drawing to win a summer getaway package which will be drawn on April 28 at Buzilla Furniture. The package will contain four tickets to a Texas Rangers game as well as tickets to a water park and hotel lodging for the winner.

The Friona Noon Lions will be serving up their world-famous French fries with chilidogs to all that attend the blood drive. Come on out and give the gift of life, enjoy a chilidog & fries and possibly win a summer getaway.

Gloria Brooks from Coffee Memorial Blood Center in Amarillo announced that Friona has been selected as the Star Community by Dairy Max for the blood drive in June. They are making plans to have a day filled with giving blood and having fun celebrating Dairy Month. The blood drive will be held Thursday, June 22 at Calvary Baptist Church. We will have more details at a later date on all the planned activities. Make plans to come out to the blood drive and enjoy a fun-filled day.

The kids are back in school after Spring Break and Graduation is just around the corner. The next few weeks are filled with golf, track, baseball, tennis, music programs, banquets and Senior class activities. The 2017 Seniors will host their annual Steak Dinner on April 2 and move into Senior banquets at the local churches beginning with St. Teresa on April 3. This year has passed by in a blink and when we blink again it will be time once again for school to start.

Early voting in the Friona ISD Board of Trustees election runs from April 14 to May 2 at the FISD Administration building. If you are mailing in a ballot, the last day to send in your vote is May 6.

The Friona Volunteer Fire Department members are selling tickets for a 50 for 50 fundraiser. They are selling $50 tickets for the chance to win one or more of 50 guns. They will be holding the drawing on July 4 at 9 a.m. at the Fire Station. The event is open to the public. The list of guns is in the article on the front page of this week’s Star. Parmer Medical Center has a big week planned next week.

On Tuesday, they will be hosting a free money-savings informative meeting presented by the Area Agency on Aging. They will be discussing Medicare savings programs and new preventative services. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. at 1307 Cleveland. Everyone is invited to attend. For more information call (806) 250-2754.

On Thursday, PMC will be honoring the doctors and physician assistants at their annual Physician’s Day from 1-2 p.m. in the lobby of the hospital. Those being honored are Doctors Jubay and Webb, and Physician Assistants Lynette Jubay, Nathaniel Covarrubias, Clayton Halford and Trevor Steiner. Come by and show your appreciation for all they do and enjoy some refreshments.

St. Teresa’s Catholic Church is having a huge yard sale at 605 Summitt on Saturday, March 25 to raise money for their Youth Rally. Lourdes Benavides said they have many items to choose from and lots of bargains. The community can come out and help support this event and help the youth at the same time. The sale starts at 8 a.m.

I went to the Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative annual meeting on Tuesday. I got to see many of my old friends from my time at the Hereford Brand. Not many things change. There was an enormous amount of food and an endless line of people. DSEC covers a mighty big area and touches the lives of thousands of people’s lives. Their annual meeting is a way of taking care of business and their customers at the same time. They elected two new officers and spent quality time with their devoted customers.

Bovina Chamber of Commerce celebrated the citizens of Bovina Tuesday evening at the annual banquet. Thanks go to the Stateline Tribune and Rob Pomper. He covered the event for his paper and shared the information with the Star. Thanks Rob!
