Former Friona folks are making news across the state.

Among them are former Friona police officer Houston Gass. If you remember, Gass was shot in the face and shoulder two years ago while responding to a domestic disturbance. He has fully recovered and will be the new police chief in Fritch. Congratulations Houston.

FHS graduate Mark Madrid has been named to the Latino Business Action Network (LBAN), an NGO that is collaborating with the Stanford Business School to help scale Latino Businesses throughout the United States for the general benefit of the US economy. Congratulations Mark!

I went to the Panhandle Press Association’s awards luncheon last Saturday in Amarillo. I got to see some old friends and enjoy a delicious Italian dinner at Eddie Napolis. The Friona Star brought home a 1st place in Editorial Writing, 2nd place in Human Interest Photo, 2nd place in Spot News Photo, 2nd place in Humorous Column and a 3rd place in Advertising Design.

This event is held each year and it has been a number of years since the Friona Star participated.

I am sure you are wondering about Ron. He started chemo and radiation this week. Friends and family are driving him to and from his appointments in Amarillo. Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes.

We got a very nice “Thank You” note from the Friona Star Friona Kids’ Inc. team. “Just a note to say thank you for being our team sponsor and we’re praying for God’s peace and comfort as you recover.” They also included a schedule for their upcoming games. Their coach is Shanna Daniels and she had each member of the team sign the card. Thank you Shanna. Ron appreciates all the well wishes and looks forward to getting back to work.

Spring cleaning is upon us. If you are cleaning your windows, come by the Star office and get a few newspapers to get the job done. They are free and make windows sparkle.

If you have a graduating senior and will packing them up for college, we have newspapers for that as well.
