Happy Anniversary to Mitchell & Kim Smiley. They are celebrating 36 years of happiness this year.

The President of WTAMU, Walter Wendler, will meet with the Friona Noon Lions Club on Thursday, May 18 (today) at Headquarter’s Restaurant from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you are a former, present or future WTAMU Buffalo you are welcome to join the Lions for a free lunch and meet President Wendler.

Got news that Randie Hamilton will be not be in the First Baptist Church’s office for a while during June and July. She will be having knee replacement surgery. We wish her well and a speedy recovery.

The end of another school year is fast approaching. This Friday they will be holding the Chieftain Challenge and Tribe Awards at the High School. This is followed by final testing and the last day of school on Thursday, May 25 and graduation at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at Chieftain Field.

Come on out to Reeve Lake this Sunday for Youth Fishing Day. Texas Junior Anglers will be on hand with bait and loaner gear. This is always a good way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. I enjoy it because of the kids that participate. The smiles on the kids’ faces make the day worthwhile.

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place longest fish in each age group. Age groups are 6 and under, 7 to 11-year-olds, and 12 to 16-year-olds. They also have random drawings of sporting goods and fishing equipment throughout the afternoon.

Go by the FISD Administration building Thursday, May 26 from 3-4:30 p.m. to congratulate the current retirees. Retiring this year are Kathy Terry, Minnie Ureste, Mark Sundre and Kathy Eppers. Come enjoy the refreshment and wish them well on their next big adventure.

Friona United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church and Templo Bautista have announced their Vacation Bible School plans. The list can be found on page 5 and can be conveniently cut out and put on the refrigerator.

Next week is the Graduation 2017 collectible edition of the Friona Star. We will be featuring the senior class and all of their accomplishments. Local advertisers will also be congratulating this year’s graduates with special ads. Check out these businesses and shop locally.
